Name: Early Years Series at the British International School of Houston
Date: June 4, 2018
Time: 8:45 AM - 9:45 AM CDT
Event Description:
Building Blocks of Early Years Series at the British International School of Houston

As parents of children aged 2 to 6, we often have questions or want to know more about our children but are unsure of whom to ask. In order to assist with this, we have developed a series of workshops led by experts in their field who will come and share their expertise with us in person. Each workshop will be interactive and have an area of focus. There will be ample opportunity to ask questions and to participate.
You will also have the opportunity to take a tour of the campus and refreshments will be available. To book your seat, please go to the Events page at www.bishouston.org.

The Power of Play…Why It Matters in the Early Years!

‘Learning teaches us what is known. Play makes it possible for new things to be learned. There are many concepts and skills that can only be learned through play’ David Elkind

We often hear parents asking ‘Why do children in the Early Years spend SO much time playing?’ and never ‘Why do children in the Early Years spend so much time learning?’. Fascinating! In reality, the two are inextricably linked and form the basis of all future learning and potential for a child.
To help parents understand this pedagogical approach more fully, this session will explore the following themes…

'What does high quality play based learning look like?'

'How will this exploratory, inquiry focused learning  help my child to succeed academically?'

'Why is play so important for the neurological development of my child and how does it impact on their well-being and future life chances?'

'What can I do to support my child’s learning in the Early Years?’
